LF RFID cards, key fobs and tags

Low frequency RFID credentials use inductive coupling between the reader and the transponder. A frequency match is only the first selection criterion. The IC, modulation, data rate and identifier representation must also match the installed system.

EM4200 cards and key fobs

EM4200 is a factory programmed read only IC. Its manufacturer lists 64, 96 and 128 bit ROM options and an IC operating range of 100 to 150 kHz. Select the complete part configuration and finished antenna tuning for the reader. An EM4100 style identifier requirement must include modulation, data rate and the way the access system displays the identifier.

T5577 programmable credentials

T5577 is a commonly used designation for the ATA5577 family. Programming configures the supported identification mode and application data. The ATA5577C reference has eleven EEPROM blocks, each with 32 data bits and a lock bit. Seven user blocks include the block used for the password when password mode is enabled. Confirm the exact silicon revision; the reference specifications do not establish that every T5577 credential is identical.

Selecting the physical product

An ISO card provides a large printed identification area. A clamshell card uses a thicker rigid construction. Key fobs attach to a key ring, while wristbands provide a wearable credential. Choose the mechanical format for handling and issuing requirements, then validate it near the metal objects, enclosures and reader mounting used in service.

Information required for production

Provide the reader model, a system specification or authorized sample identifier, modulation and data rate where known, printed numbering format and any required relationship between printed and encoded data. Specify enclosure or card artwork, quantity and the sample acceptance procedure. Mobile phone NFC does not read 125 kHz credentials.
