LF, HF, NFC and UHF

Compare the main RFID technology groups without confusing frequency with compatibility.

Frequency is one selection parameter

An operating frequency identifies the radio band, but does not fully specify the command set, memory structure or security behavior. Two credentials at 13.56 MHz can require different reader software. Begin with the application transaction and the installed reader, then confirm the complete IC configuration.

Low frequency identification

The Roxtron LF range includes options for installed identification and access systems. A specified 125 kHz carrier does not make all LF chips interchangeable: modulation, data coding and identifier organization may differ. NFC phones cannot read a 125 kHz credential through their NFC interface. Verify a replacement with the exact reader and host format.

HF and NFC

HF covers multiple technologies. ISO/IEC 14443 and ISO/IEC 15693 are distinct standards families. NFC uses 13.56 MHz and defines interoperable behavior across supported interfaces and tag types. For example, NTAG213 is a Type 2 IC and ICODE SLIX2 is associated with Type 5 operation. These labels describe different underlying implementations. UHF and regional operation

Roxtron’s UHF label range is designated 840–960 MHz. That catalog label must not be treated as permission to transmit across the entire range. Reader settings and antenna qualification must match the deployment country and applicable equipment requirements.

Standards revisions also matter. The February 2026 GS1 Gen2 release 3.0.1 specifies 860–930 MHz, while its referenced ISO/IEC 18000-63 title covers 860–960 MHz. Record the applicable protocol revision and the exact IC operating range rather than assuming every document uses the same band description.
